The Memory
Every Saturday morning, my Nan would press 50p into my hand and send me off down to the corner shop with strict instructions not to spend it all at once (which I almost always did).
The shelves were lined with jars of colourful sweets, and after much deliberation I’d always choose the same thing, a quarter of Rhubarb & Custard.
The shopkeeper would scoop them into a little white paper bag, twist the top, and hand them across the counter. I’d walk home dipping into the bag, trying to make them last… though they never did.
These melts are a little trip back to those simple moments, sticky fingers, sweet treats, and the joy of spending Saturday mornings with Nan.
