The Sweet Shop Candle

Every Saturday morning, my Nan would press 50p into my hand and send me off down to the corner shop with strict instructions not to spend it all at once (which I almost always did).

The shelves were lined with jars of colourful sweets, and after much deliberation I’d always choose the same thing, a quarter of Rhubarb & Custard.

The shopkeeper would scoop them into a little white paper bag, twist the top, and hand them across the counter. I’d walk home dipping into the bag, trying to make them last… though they never did.

This candle is a little trip back to those simple moments, sticky fingers, sweet treats, and the joy of spending Saturday mornings with Nan.

To ensure you enjoy your candle safely, always burn it within sight. Never leave a lit candle unattended, and keep it away from anything flammable such as curtains, furniture, or papers.

Before each use, trim the wick to around 5mm. This helps prevent an overly large flame, excessive smoke, and ensures a clean, even burn. For best results, allow the wax to melt fully across the surface on the first burn to avoid tunnelling.

Always place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Avoid burning your candle near open windows, fans, or drafts that could cause uneven burning or sooting.

Keep candles out of reach of children and pets. Stop using the candle when about 10mm of wax remains at the bottom to prevent overheating the container.
