The Grand Hotel Candle

My Grandad used to work as a night porter at a hotel in Ilfracombe, and I have such lovely memories of him getting ready for work.

Every Sunday, we'd visit Nan and Grandad, and after we'd had our tea, Grandad would head upstairs for a shower while Nan ironed his crisp white shirt.

I can still picture him coming downstairs, freshly showered and smelling of Old Spice, ready to put on his shirt, bow tie and, of course, his braces. He always looked so smart.

I never actually got to see the hotel where he worked. I was only little at the time, but in my imagination it was somewhere rather grand. A beautiful old hotel with an impressive entrance, polished wooden furniture and elegant rooms.

A little bit like the one on this candle's label.

So when I was looking for a new name for this fragrance, The Grand Hotel suddenly felt rather special.

It's funny how something as simple as a fragrance can bring back memories you haven't thought about for years.

Every time I look at The Grand Hotel, I think of my Grandad, his crisp white shirt, that familiar smell of Old Spice and those Sunday evenings at Nan and Grandad's.

That's what Memory Lane is all about. Not just a scent, but a memory.

To ensure you enjoy your candle safely, always burn it within sight. Never leave a lit candle unattended, and keep it away from anything flammable such as curtains, furniture, or papers.

Before each use, trim the wick to around 5mm. This helps prevent an overly large flame, excessive smoke, and ensures a clean, even burn. For best results, allow the wax to melt fully across the surface on the first burn to avoid tunnelling.

Always place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Avoid burning your candle near open windows, fans, or drafts that could cause uneven burning or sooting.

Keep candles out of reach of children and pets. Stop using the candle when about 10mm of wax remains at the bottom to prevent overheating the container.
