Nan’s kitchen was always warm, always filled with the scent of something wonderful in the oven, but nothing compared to the mornings she baked croissants. I’d wake up to the buttery, golden smell drifting through the house, pulling me out of bed and straight to the kitchen, where she’d already be at work with flour dusting her apron, the rolling pin moving back and forth in a steady rhythm.

“Not too fast,” she’d remind me in that broad welsh accent of hers, guiding my little hands as I tried to fold the dough just right. Layers upon layers, each one holding the promise of something flaky and perfect. The oven door would creak as she slid the tray inside, and then came the hardest part, the waiting! The smell grew richer, filling every corner of the house with warm, buttery sweetness, a mix of crisping pastry and golden, melting butter that made my stomach rumble.

Finally, she’d pull them out, their flaky layers glistening. She’d tear one open, letting the steam escape, and place it in my hands, warm, soft, perfect. No fancy toppings, no need for anything extra. Just a croissant, fresh from Nan’s oven, made with love and the kind of patience only she had.

Lighting The Bakery takes me right back to those mornings, to Nan humming as she baked, to the scent of pastry wrapping around me like a hug, to the simple joy of something homemade and filled with love. It’s not just a candle. It’s breakfast at Nan’s, all over again. I really do miss her x

To ensure you enjoy your candle safely, always burn it within sight. Never leave a lit candle unattended, and keep it away from anything flammable such as curtains, furniture, or papers.

Before each use, trim the wick to around 5mm. This helps prevent an overly large flame, excessive smoke, and ensures a clean, even burn. For best results, allow the wax to melt fully across the surface on the first burn to avoid tunnelling.

Always place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Avoid burning your candle near open windows, fans, or drafts that could cause uneven burning or sooting.

Keep candles out of reach of children and pets. Stop using the candle when about 10mm of wax remains at the bottom to prevent overheating the container.
